Question
Explain the series connection of parallel resistors.

Answer

(i) If we consider the connection of a set of parallel resistors that are connected in series, we get a series - parallel circuit.
(ii) Let $R_1$ and $R_2$ be connected in parallel to give an effective resistance of $R_{P 1}$.
(iii) Similarly, let $R_3$ and $R_4$ be connected in parallel to give an effective resistance of $R_{P 2}$.
(iv) Then, both of these parallel segments are connected in series.

Finally, using the equation the $R_S=R_1+R_2+R_3$ net effecitve resistance is given by $R_{\text {total }}=R_{P 1}$ $+R_{P 2}$
