Lazarus has classified stress evaluations into two types:
Primary appraisal : At this stage, the individual makes an initial appraisal about the seriousness of the event, i.e. - What is happening or whether this event is good or not? Is it relevant or irrelevant? Is it stressful and threatening ? If it is stressful, what would be its effect and to what extent? Whether it deserves response or not? On the basis of these questions, the individual makes primary appraisal of the situation.
Secondary appraisal : After giving response to the stressful situation, the second stage of appraisal comes into operation. In this stage, the individual considers his personal and social resources available to him to cope with stress, whether these resources are sufficient or not? After evaluation, the individual implements the best option.
