Explant culture, is method of whole plant regeneration. In this method, any part of plant is cultured on specific nutrient medium under specific conditions in test tube. The capacity of regenerating whole plant from a cell explant is known as totipotency. For explant culture, nutrient medium is prepared by mixing carbon source. e.g. sucrose, inorganic salts, vitamins, amino acids and growth hormones - auxins, cytokinen, etc. By using this method, thousands of plants can be grown within a short time period.
