  1. The major challenge in the area of education is to bring all Indian children in the age group 6-14 years under the purview of school education.
  2. Per capita education expenditure differs across the states. This in turn leads to variation in educational opportunities and attainments across the states. Further this is contrary to the purpose of equity (regional equality).
  3. Education for All' still seems to be distant dream. This is because of the fact that no doubt the literacy rates have gone up relatively but the absolute numbers of illiterates in India are as much as India's population at the the time of independence.
