There is tremendous heat below the earth’s crust.
  • The rocks and minerals here exist in the molten form and are called Magma.
  • As the magma has less density it tends to move upward and heat the water in the region.
  • The water turns into vapour and comes out as hot water springs.
  • The energy contained in it is called geothermal energy.
  • The countries that use this energy are (UJIN) USA, Japan, Ireland, Italy and New Zealand.
  • A geothermal plant has been established at Manikaran near Kulu in Himachal Pradesh.
  • In Gujarat geothermal reservoirs are found at Ukai in Valsad, Lasundra at Tuva in Kheda and Tulsishyam in Saurashtra.
  • In the future the use of this energy source will increase.
