Mica is transparent, fireproof, hard and elastic substance.
Transparent and unbroken mica is the most useful.
It is a non-conductor of electricity so it is used in making electric instruments like radio, telephone, aeroplane, motor gramophone and noise absorbing curtains.
It is also used as a supplementary of glass because of its shine.
The main producers in the world are South Africa, Spain, $USA,$ Canada, Japan, India and France.
India stands first in the production of mica. India has large quantity of muscovite (colourless, light coloured mica).
The main producers of mica in India are Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan. The mines of Hajaribagh in Bihar are well known for their good quality mica.
Mica is exported in large quantity to the $USA,$ Russia and other nations of Europe from
Vishakhapattanam and Kolkata.
