Give possible expressions for the length and breadth of the rectangle whose area is given by $4 a^2+4 a-3$.

Answer

$\text { Given, area of rectangle }=4 a^2+6 a-2 a-3$
$=4 a^2+4 a-3[\text { by splitting middle term] }$
$=2 a(2 a+3)-1(2 a+3)=(2 a-1)(2 a+3)$
Hence, possible length $=2 a-1$ and breadth $=2 a+3$
