  1. Ashoka tried to hold his empire together by propagating dhamma, the principles of which as we have seen were simple and virtually universally applicable.
  2. According to him, dhamma would ensure the well being of people in the world and the text.
  3. Special officers known as the Dhamma Mahamatta, were appointed to spread the message of dhamma.
  4. Ashoka's edicts throw very useful light on his Dhamma. One of his edicts says, obedience must be rendered to father and mother likewise others. He recommended self examination and introspection.
