The various activities have been classified into 3 sectors:
  1. Primary sector: Refers to the economy by direct use of natural resources. Primary sector includes agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fishing, poultry farming, mining etc. This sector provides raw material to the secondary sector and it is also known as the agriculture sector as agriculture is the main activity in this sector.
  2. Secondary sector: concerned with transforming raw products into usable products. Secondary sector is also known as the manufacturing sector. This sector includes manufacturing units and industries. These industries take raw material from the primary sector and process them into finished goods.
  3. Tertiary sector: Refers to the provision of services to support the production and distribution. Tertiary sector includes trade, transport, communication, banking, education, health, tourism, services, insurance etc. This sector provides goods and services. Therefore it is also known as the service sector.
