The dispersion of sunlight is the splitting of white light into rays of seven different colours. Just after the rain, there are a large number of water drops in the air which act like small prisms. As the white sunlight enters these water drops, the constituents of white light of different colours are refracted by different amounts, and a band of seven colours called rainbow is formed.
