(i) Differences between Protein hormone and steroid hormone
S. No.Protein HormoneSteroid Hormone
1. Protein hormones act on receptors located on cell membranes. Steroid hormones act on intracellular receptors.
2. They produce secondary messengers (such as cyclic $AMP , IP _3, Ca ^{+2}$). They regulate gene expression or the activity of gene products through hormonal interactions and genomic reciprocal actions.
3. They regulate cellular metabolism of secondary messengers. Example : Insulin. Integrated biochemical processes affect the body's physiology and growth. Example : Testosterone.
