Question
Identify the type of reaction: $\text{MnO}_2+4\text{HCl}\rightarrow\text{MnCl}_2+2\text{H}_2\text{O}+\text{Cl}_2$

Answer

$MnO _2+4 HCl \rightarrow MnCl _2+2 H _2 O + Cl _2$ This reaction is the example of a redox reaction. Because $MnO _2$ has donated its oxygen atoms and hence got reduced. Also, Chlorine is converted into $Cl ^{-}$to form $Cl _2$ and hence get oxidised. Since both oxidation and reduction has taken place. This is a redox reaction.
