The tradition of $16$ ceremonies is popular in India since the ancient times. These $16$ ceremonies have been made publicly common and among them the marriage ceremony stands first many rituals are included in the marriage ceremony.
   Vedic literature is the base of rituals performed in the marriage ceremony. Pradakshina and Parikrama are the important parts of this ritual. In the ritual called Pradakshina, the bridge and the bridgegroom walk around the sacred fire four time considering it as representative of gods. In the first three rounds the bridegroom leads and the bride follows chim. But according to some people, in the first three rounds, the bride leads and the bridegroom follows her. According to "बृहद ब्रहमनित्यकर्म समुच्चय" the bride leads in the first three rounds.
    There is another ritual called saptapadi in which both the bride and the bridegroom walk seven steps together in order to accomplish uniformity in their soul and to establish Grihasthashram firmly. Thus, in marriage ceremony, different rituals are performed to achieve religion, riches, sex and salvation for the happy married life.
