In the story 'कङ्कणस्य तु लोभेन' takes from Mitralabh chapter of Hitopdesh the cleverness of tiger has been explained. In this story, an old tiger incapable of hunting plays trick to trap a traveller as his prey. The traveller got trapped due to his temptation for golden bracelet.
The old tiger pretends to be a renouncer and a donor and asks the greedy traveller to take golden bracelet from him. The tiger tells him that in the youth time his behavior was very bad and he killed cows and people. Due to which, his wife and children died. Now because of preaching given by a religious person he has become pure (by taking bath) and ready to give donation. It says that, "My teeth and nail have dissolved so I can not harm anybody. I can be trusted." Then the tiger offered him the golden bracelet. The traveller got tempted and was killed and eaten away by the tiger.
The tiger hunted animals in his whole, life. But now being old, he is not able to hunt animals for his meal. He grasped the greedy nature of the traveller and trapped him. Thus, even being old and weak, the tiger did not leave his natural tendencies.
