Minerals form an indispensable part of our lives in the following ways:

1. From a tiny pin that we use to a towering building or big ships are all made up of minerals.
2. The food that we consume also contains minerals which are essential for the growth of human body.
3. Cars, buses, trains and aeroplanes are manufactured with the help of minerals and they run on power resource derived from minerals.

Uses of different Minerals:

• Iron ore is the basic mineral and the backbone of industrial development.
• The ore of the metal aluminium is called bauxite. Aluminium is used to manufacture automobiles and aircrafts. It is also used in kitchenware, furniture and fittings, etc.
• Mica is used in the electrical and electronic industries.
• Copper was used in making coins in olden times. Today, it is used to make wires, electronic motors, transformers, generators, etc.
• Gold is used for making jewellery.
• Salt is used by every household to make food tasty.
• Silicon is another important mineral used in computer industry.

Therefore, in all stages of development human beings have used minerals for their livelihood, decoration, festivities, religious and ceremonial sites.
