Name the particles that constitute the cathode rays. State some properties of cathode rays.

Cathode rays are made up of electrons—the fundamental negatively charged particles. These rays have the following properties, among others. (i) They can affect photographic plates and produce fluorescence in materials like zinc sulphide. (ii) They carry momentum and energy. (iii) They are deflected by electric and magnetic field in the sense in which negatively charged particles are deflected.
