Compounds having either \(CH_3CO-\) group or \(\mathrm{CH}_{3} \mathrm{CHOH}-\) group, give iodoform when warmed with \(I_{2}\) and \(\mathrm{NaOH}\). Thus, compounds give iodoform when heated with \(I_{2}\) and \(N a O H .\) (Note : \(N a O I\) oxidises \(C H_{3} C H_{2} O H\) to \(C H_{3} C H O,\) and gives positive iodoform test.)
