Maharshi Dayanand established Arya Samaj at Mumbai in 1875. He taught vedic education to people of India and spread good knowledge. He tried to eradicate the evil customs and traditions from the society and uprooted superstitions.
Dayanand Saraswati travelled whole of India and preached Ved-Dharma to people. He opposed idol- worshipping and put efforts to eradicate untouchability. He also worked to remove the differences among people, helped women to get respect in society and worked to remove pretenses prevailed in the society in the name of religion. For this purpose, he composed books like Rigvedadi Bhasya Bhumika, Satyarth Prakash and Sanskar Vidhi. Besides, social work, he was engaged in teaching Sanskrit and ancient scriptures. He re-established the ideas of Vedic-Dharma also.
