Question
short note : Hydrosphere
✓
Answer
The area on the earth's surface occupied by water is called 'Hydrosphere'. It includes oceans, seas, bays, lakes, ponds, rivers, etc. The hydrosphere occupies about $71\%$ of earth's surface. The vast water mass over a large area on earth's surface is called 'Ocean'. There are four oceans on the earth viz. the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian and the Arctic Oceans. At some places in these oceans, there are few valleys which are $10$ to $11 \ km$ deep. Of the total water on the surface of the earth, $97 \%$ water is saline water in the oceans. Remaining $3\%$ is fresh water. About three quarter of that water is found in the form of snow over polar regions and on the high mountains like the Himalayas. Some of the sweet water is within the earth's crust and the rest is in the reservoirs like lakes and rivers. Thus, only $1\%$ of fresh water on the earth is available to living organisms.
