Question
Sino-atrial node (SAN) is called the pacemaker of our heart. Why?

Answer

The sinoatrial node (SAN), also known as the pacemaker, generates more impulses. It creates 70-75 impulses per minute and initiates and maintains the rhythmic contraction of the heart. Therefore, it is termed the pacemaker, as it controls and regulates the heart rate. Consequently, our normal heart rate averages at 72 beats per minute.
