In order to make the information more meaningful and to derive significant decisions easily from the table, some guiding rules for the construction of a good table are as follows:
- Guiding rules for Tabulation:
(1) Appropriate title should be given.
(2 There should be clear and simple captions to the rows and column.
(3) Size of the table should be proportionate to the space available.
(4)The interrelated information should be placed adjacent to each other.
(5) Large numbers should be represented in hundred, thousands, lakhs or crores.
(6) Separate lines should be drawn to distinguish the main characteristics of the data.
(7) Provision for indicating the totals of primary and subsidiary characteristics should be there in a table.
(8) Large volume of data should be represented in different tables instead of a single table.
(9) Source of the data must be mentioned at the end of the table.
(10) Before preparing the final table, a rough table should be prepared.
