The iris controls the amount of light entering the human eye by automatically adjusting the size of the pupil according to the intensity of light received by the eye. If the intensity of light is greater, the iris helps in contracting the pupil to accommodate the right amount of light inside the eye, thus protecting the retina from being damaged by bright light.
