Question
Through how many methods does respiration take place in a frog? Write the name of each. Describe cutaneous respiration.

Answer

Respiration in frog occurs through three methods:
1. Cutaneous respiration
2. Oropharyngeal respiration
3. Pulmonary respiration
Cutaneous Respiration: The skin of the frog is thin and highly vascular (supplied with blood capillaries). It remains moist due to mucus and water. Due to which O2 present in the atmospheric air diffuses through the moist skin and reaches the blood. Similarly, CO2 diffuses in the opposite direction into the atmosphere through the skin moistened with blood. In frog, cutaneous respiration takes place in water and during summer dormancy and hibernation. This is the best way of respiration.
