Ways in which the ego unconsciously copes with unacceptable id impulses as in repression, projection etc. Repression - Anxiety provoking behaviour or thoughts are totally dismissed by the unconscious. Person becomes totally unaware of that desire or wish which is repressed. Denial - In denial a person totally refuses to accept reality.
