Micropropagation : By asexual reproduction, thousand of palnts with identical characters are regenerated, this is known as clonal propagation. When clonal propagation is carried out under in vitro conditions, it is called micro propagation.
Micropropagation is a technique of plant tissue culture in which thousand of plants can be propagated froma part of the plant. Plants produced through micropropagation can also be termed as somaclones because these are genetically similar to the mother plant.
Methods of Micropropagation :(i) Selection of suitable explant and its sterilization.
(ii) Transfer of explant on nutrient medium.
(iii) Protiferation of shoot on nutrient medium.
(iv) Transfer of shoots on rooting medium.
(v) Transfer of plantlets on soil.
Micropropagation can be achieved by three methods :
(a) By callus culture
(b) By adventitions stem
(c) By apical and axillary stems
Benefits of Micropropagation :
(i) A large number of plants can be produced in less time.
(ii) All the plants are genetically identical to their parents.
(iii) Plants one disease resistant.
