What is conflict? Discuss different types of conflicts.

Conflict refers to a state of disturbance or tension resulting from opposing motives, drives, needs, or goals.
Approach-Approach conflict: In this situation a person is involved in more than one positive force fields. e.g. Making choice between two liked dishes, going for sweet or a comic book are common examples.
Approach-Avoidance Conflict: This occurs when the objects have both positive and negative valence. Ambivalent behaviour and oscillation are quite common in such a situation.
Avoidance-Avoidance Conflict: It involves objects with negative valence. The conflict involving two aversive goals represents the situation characterized by the saying "between the devil and the deep sea."
Double Approach Avoidance Conflict: It involves two goals each with negative and positive qualities. We buy things and often different things having positive and negative qualities.
