What is meant by right issue of shares?

Answer

This is the offer of new shares by an existing company to the existing shareholders. Each shareholder has the right to subscribe to the new shares in the proportion of shares, he already holds. Right issue is a convenient and inexpensive method of raising additional capital. This right is called the pre-emptive right of the existing shareholders.
