Question
What is mole fraction? How it is calculated?
✓
Answer
The mole fraction of a component in a mixture or solution is the ratio of number of moles of that component to the total moles of the mixture. If solute $A$ is dissolved in solvent $B$ whose moles are $n_A$ and $n_B$ respectively. Mole fraction of $A \left( X _{ A }\right)=\frac{\text { Moles of } A }{\text { Total moles of solution }}$ Mole fraction of $B \left( X _{ B }\right)=\frac{\text { Moles of } B }{\text { Total moles of solution }}$ The total mole fraction of all constituent of any mixture is always one. $ X_{A}+X_{B}=1 $
