Question
What is surface rainfall?

Answer

Surface or altitude rain: If a mountain or a high region comes in the way of moist winds coming from the seas, these winds collide with the windward side of the mountain and rise higher. As the rising air cools, clouds of moisture form in it. The rain that falls more on the windward slopes of a cooling mountain is called elevation or surface rainfall.
