Question
Why chloroform is kept in the dark in coloured bottle?

Answer

Chloroform is slowly oxidised by air in the presence of light to form an extremely poisonous gas phosgene. Thus it stored in closed dark coloured bottles completely filled so that air is kept out.
$\underset{\text { chloroform }}{2 CHCl _3+ O _2} \xrightarrow{\text { sunlight }} \underset{\text { phosgene }}{2 COCl _2+2 HCl }$
