Question
Why does the needle ot compass aIwys remain in the north-south direction?
✓
Answer
The earth works as a magnet. A magnet which can move freely remains steady in north-south direction, because the magnetic field of the earth affects it. The magnetic south pole of the earth is near its geographical North Pole and the magnetic north pole of the earth is near its geographical South Pole. The geographical north and magnetic north of the earth are not at the same place.
That is why the needle of the compass always points north-south direction.
