Why is thermoregulation more effectively achieved in larger animals than in smaller ones?

Heat loss or heat gain is a function of surface area.
  1. Since small animals have a large surface area relative to their volume, they lose body heat very fast.
  2. But larger animals have a ratio of surface area to volume of the body much smaller compared to small animals and hence thermoregulation in them is more effective.
