In ancient times, laws were enacted during the time of Emperor Ashoka of Maurya dynasty to protect wildlife. The 'State Wildlife' is formed by most of the states for the protection of wildlife. Some voluntary non- government organizations also work for this. Following measures should be carried out for the conservation of wildlife :
$(1)$ Strict laws should be enacted by the Government to curb the cruelty towards animals and also for hunting the animals. It should be implemented strictly.
$(2)$ Census of the wildlife should be carried out after certain interval of time.
$(3)$ Forests are the dwelling for the wildlife. They provide natural protection to the wildlife. So the deforestation should be prevented.
$(4)$ The importance of the wildlife conservation should be explained to the people. They should be explained how to protect the wildlife.
$(5)$ Proper precautions should be taken to avoid forest fire. If there is a forest fire, the authority should be vigilant to douse the fire quickly.
$(6)$ Efforts should be made to provide for the medical treatment to wildlife.
$(7)$ Protected areas should be created for the wildlife.
$(8)$ Public awareness should be created by propaganda and broadcasting media.
$(9)$ Arrangement should be made to provide an adequate supply to wildlife for their needs of water, food, natural habitat, etc.
$(10)$ The illegal felling of trees in the forests should be prevented. Birds live in the hollow places of the trees and they build their nests over the branches of the trees.
