Natural gas is found along with mineral oil.
  • It is used as power in factories and for producing heat in cold regions.
  • It is used widely as it is cheap and available in a pure form.
  • About $23$ billion cubic metres of natural gas is consumed in India.
  • India produces $2786$ crore cubic metres of natural gas per year.
  • About three-fourth of the production of natural gas comes from Bombay-High, $10\%$ comes from Gujarat and about $7\%$ comes from Assam.
  • The other producer states are Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Tripura.
  • Natural Gas is supplied to the petrochemical and fertilizer factories through pipelines.
  • For E.g.the pipeline of Hajira-Bijapur-Jagdishpur.
  • Cooking gas is also provided through pipelines The first city in Gujarat to provide it was Vadodara.
  • The other cities to benefit are Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Surat, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
