Question
Write a note on Sandmeyer reaction.

Answer

When a primary aromatic amic $(-NH_2$ group directly attached to the benzene ring$)$ is treated with sodium nitrite and cold aqueous mineral acid $(HX),$ then diazonium salt is formed. When diazonium salt is treated with cuprous halide $($cuprous chloride or cuprous bromide$)$ halogen $(-Cl, -Br)$ comes in place of diazonium group.
