Functions of nucleic acids:
(i) Nucleic acids are the information stores of cells.
(ii) From birth to death the types, functions etc. of cells in living organisms are controlled by nucleic acid.
(iii) Formation of proteins is controlled by DNA. The growth, structure and metabolism of living organisms depend on proteins. Protein synthesis is done by RNA.
(iv) DNA Molecules transmit genetic traits from generation to generation.
