  • Japan had to vacate Sakhalin island and Siberia.
  • The youth in Japan was displeased with the treatment given to Japan and they voted for military rule.
  • The military officers who headed the Japanese government adopted imperialist- expansionist policy.
  • Japan invaded and captured Manchuria in 1932 and set up ‘Manchukuo’ government.
  • Thereafter Japan captured Korea, Mangolia and Shantung province of China.
  • Japan left the League of Nations in 1933.
  • Emperor Hirohito who came to the throne in 1933 encouraged the Japanese imperialism.
  • Japan became a signatory to ‘Rome – Berlin Tokyo Axis’.
  • The Western powers failed to restrain the imperialist - expansionist Japan which invaded China during the Second World War and occupied most of its territory.
  • Japan launched an aerial attack on Pearl Harbour on 8th December, 1941 and plunged Into the Second World War on the side of Germany and Italy.
