Question
Write short note on : Changes that have taken place in agriculture.

Answer

India has sufficient land for agriculture. Due to farmers using traditional implements and methods for farming. India lacked enough production. After independence, ample efforts were made in Five Year Plans to develop agriculture. Factors such as improved seeds, increased use of chemical fertilizers, farmer's hard work, power distribution system, increased irrigation facilities. etc. led to an extraordinary enhancement in agricultural production. India became self-reliant in the field of food production. There was a green revolution in the country. Co-operative activities have significantly contributed to improve the level of agriculture and to provide agricultural guidance to farmers.
The green revolution has led to record production of the wheat and the paddy crop. In a country where there was scarcity of food grains before, there are ample reserves of food grains today. A situation of drought or scarcity can easily overcome today due to this buffer stock of grain.
