The main functions of the Prime Minister are as follows :
$(1)$ The Prime Minister forms the cabinet on invitation of the President. He carries out the task of allocating one or more departments to each minister. He also manages one or more departments. The President formally appoints the entire cabinet on the advice of the Prime Minister.
$(2)$ The Prime Minister has the authority to select council of ministers, to keep them in office, to change their departments and to remove them from office.
$(3)$ He/She chairs the meetings of the council of ministers. He/She discusses important matters and takes policy decisions.
$(4)$ He/She monitors and coordinates the activities of each minister and guides each minister to act in accordance with the policy of Government.
$(5)$ The Members of Parliament ask questions and sub-questions related to state administration to the ministers during the proceedings of Parliament. Both the Prime Minister and the Executive are constitutionally responsible for answering these questions.
$(6)$ The Prime Minister acquaints the President with the resolutions passed in Cabinet meetings, the overall situation of the country as well as the entire administration of the Central Government.
$(7)$ The Prime Minister by the power of his position, holds the position of Chairman Policy Commission $(Planning Commission)$.
