Space Tourism: Balancing Opportunity and Responsibility
By – Jagmeet Singh, X-D

Space tourism, the idea of sending tourists into space for a few minutes or days, is becoming a reality. However, the opportunities and challenges of space tourism are complex, and ethical considerations need to be taken into account.

One opportunity of space tourism is that it could inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, providing a new way to get people interested in space exploration. However, space tourism also presents many challenges, including the potential impact on the environment. Space debris is already a major problem, and increased space traffic from tourism could exacerbate this issue.

What also causes concern is that it could contribute to the commodification of space, turning it into a playground for the rich rather than a shared resource for all humanity. There is also the question of putting paying tourists at risk for the sake of leisure activities.

As we move ahead with this exciting new industry/, we must remain mindful of the impact on our planet, our society and the future of space exploration.

Now-a-days, students attend coaching classes early in the morning or after school hours. You feel that this trend makes them tired, affects their health and so their grades. Write an article to make the students understand how this is not very helpful in improving their grades and is a waste of their precious time, in about 150 words. You are Ram /Rani. Use the given clues along with your own ideas and those you have gathered from Unit 2 : Education.
  • Trend of coaching classes
  • Lack of proper guidance by schools and parents
  • 111 effects of continously studying in coaching classes
  • No time for recreation or physical activities
Answer

Waste of Student’s Precious Time
by Ram

In this fast-paced competitive world, coaching classes has become more of a trend which most students follow. The desire among students to excel has made the students run after this trend of attending coaching classes and focusing their complete attention to studies. Parents are often helpless since they are unable to provide proper guidance when it comes to studies. They find sending their children to coaching centres more convenient than devoting time to them.

Now-a-days, students attend coaching classes early in the morning or after school hours. This trend makes them tired, sleepy and distracted in school. In addition to the homework given in school, students also have to finish homework given to them at the coaching centre. As a result, children have to cut down their time for recreation and physical activities. Too much studies and no play not only affect the health of the children, but their grades as well.

Both, students and their parents, must understand that coaching classes are not helpful in any way. Instead, they are a waste of their time and money. Students should be responsible for their own studies and grades. Even if their scores aren’t high, students should not be criticised or pressurised for it. They must i.e taught to develop their attention and retention powers so that the children are able to easily grasp the concepts taught in class and remember them for a long time. Only then students will be able to achieve better grades, that too without the help of coaching centres.

Write an article on how we can make India a carefree and enjoyable place for women where they can go wherever they like to without any fear of being stared at, molested or discriminated against, in about 150 words. Use the given clues, along with your own ideas and those you have gathered from Unit 6 : National Integration. (8)

Answer
Make India Safe for Women
by XYZ

“Thy name is integrity and strength” These are very powerful words that give a woman her due position in the society. But, she is suppressed and put down while man poses to be the powerful gender. Since, the past 20 years women security has become a bigger question in India than it was before. Why aren’t Indian females safe? Who is responsible for their safety? How should their safety be assured?

In an era when women are trying to shatter the gender barriers created by the society and when they are proving themselves as strong independent individuals, concerns about women’s safety still persists as a massive agenda. Concerns about safety restrict the activity of women who have to strategise everything from timings, how to walk, how to dress or commute etc. When we talk about women’s safety, the present situation frightens us. Women are often stared at, molested and discriminated against not only outside the house, but also in their workplaces and homes. It is the responsibility of the government and each one of us as a part of a society to strive for a safer world for women.

Effective implementation of strict laws protecting women’s’ rights is the need of the hour. Offenders must be socially boycotted and severely punished to deter future crimes against women. Another imperative step is teaching self-defense techniques to women and girls at schools, colleges, offices and residential colonies. Until the mental attitude of the society towards women changes, India cannot be a carefree and enjoyable place for them.

Decline of Tiger Population in India
by Ambika Shukla

Humans are always so greedy and selfish that they are only worried about the fulfilment of their own wants. That is the primary reason why we are losing our wildlife day-by-day. The recent killing of Avni, the tigress which had two 10-month old cubs is a case in point. As the demand is rising, illegal killing of pnimals is increasing day-by-day in national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and biosphere reserves with the connivance of local officials. India has already lost a major tiger population due to human encroachment, illegal wildlife trade, diseases, deforestation and loss of habitat.

And the remaining population is under threat due to the lack of awareness, greed, corrupt authorities and commercial tourism. Thus, many wild animals are now on the verge of extinction. The ecological balance has been disturbed due to this continuous killing of wild animals. The entire ecosystem of forests has been upset and destabilised due to such large-scale killings. Even local people who are dependent on forests for their livelihood are suffering. We should take urgent steps to stop the decline of endangered wildlife, particularly the tigers.

Many organisations are working in this regard to protect and preserve tigers. More awareness should be created among the public in this regard so that people should neither buy nor sell products made from parts of wildlife. Further, the culprits should be legally penalised through proper action by the concerned authorities.

Importance of Public Transport
by XYZ

Our nation is facing lot of problems and heavy traffic congestion is one of them. The number of private vehicles is continuously increasing in cities. This not only leads to frequent and long traffic jams but also greatly contributes in increasing air pollution. In fact, vehicular emissions are one of the biggest cause of increasing air pollution.

The most convenient solution to this problem is to encourage the use of public transport. Public transport brings many benefits to individuals, communities and local economy but it is not given due importance. It reduces air pollution. By transporting people more efficiently, it produces significantly less air pollution per passenger per mile than a standard car carrying a single driver. It is also more fuel efficient which contributes to an overall decrease in the amount of energy necessary for transportation. Public transport carries more people in much less space which lowers the ever increasing traffic congestion.

The use of public transport not only saves money but also is a much safer option when compared to other private transport options. It also encourage healthier habits. Using public transport would definitely save fuel, reduce harmful gases emissions, further reducing carbon footprints and eventually reducing the causes and effects of global warming.

Travelling in 20**
by XYZ

Travelling is a great thing, it refreshes our minds and makes us aware of other places and cultures. Some people do screen travelling these days. By ‘screen travelling1,1 mean that they discover the new places on their personal computers, laptops, tabs, mobiles, etc. By doing this, they get to know a lot about the places without actually visiting them. Such a travel educates them about new places and their cultures, histories, etc. They also get to know about the experience of other travellers.

Answer

Water Problem
by Ankita

The Earth is called the Blue Planet, for reasons known well to all of us. About 97% of the Earth is made of water, and yet the scarcity of water available for use is nerve-chilling. India suffers from water shortage for cultivation and drinking despite the fact that many big rivers flow through it.

The cause of this scarcity is global warming which has led to irregularities in rainfall and snowfall, along with the depletion of underground water resources. Further, rapid urbanisation, industrialisation and the ever increasing population has led to an increase in demand of everything. As a result, all of the underground water is lost due to over exploitation. And now it is estimated that by 2020, several Indian cities like Delhi and Bengaluru will have lost their groundwater recharge completely.

India is blessed with rainfall in several regions, which can be harvested to meet our needs. Schemes that promote proper town planning and water harvesting need to be launched on a big scale. Eco clubs should be established in all the schools of the country to spread awareness among students about the need to stop the reckless use of water and water conservation. Only then we can ensure a safe future for our coming generations, otherwise, the day is not far when we may witness another world-war not for land, but for water.

Answer

Importance of Educating Women
by Shobha

‘If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a women, you educate a family.’ This quote highlights one of the most important issues that our country faces today-education of a woman. Educating a girl is like sowing the seed which gives rise to a green, cheerful and full grown family plant. It means making the next generation well educated, virtuous, free from the useless superstitions, confident and capable of doing something good for the family, for the society and for the country as a whole.

If India wants to rank among the developed nations, it must give foremost priority to female education. If women are educated then problems like female infanticide, dowry, domestic violence, child marriage and other related atrocities will vanish. Education provides the essential criteria to fulfill certain economic, political and cultural functions and improves the socio-economic status of women. At every age and level, education enhances the intellectual, social and emotional development of women and enables them to meet their basic needs.

It stimulates educational consciousness and civic sense among the family members. A woman influences the activities and decisions of family and, thus, influences it more than anyone else. Further, an educated girl can shoulder any kind of responsibility. See the example of Kalpana Chawla, Kiran Bedi, Sonia Gandhi, Sushma Swaraj, Lima Bharati and so on, everyone has earned a name in the society in our country. A woman is the most crucial and revered entity.

She must be given all the necessary education. Ignoring her, keeping her illiterate means we are creating an illiterate and ignorant generation. So, it is perfectly true that educating a girl child means educating a family. Development cannot be accelerated unless girls are given right education in right direction.
