The natural qualities of saints are patience in trouble, forgiveness in progress, cleverness of speech in a meeting, courage in war, interest or liking in fame and habit of acquisition of knowledge.

The great poet Bhartuhari has composed three Shatakas. They are - Nitishatak, Vairagyashatak and Shrinagarshatak.

At one time or the other six occussions occur in every human being's life. They are diffiuculty, progress, meeting, war, fame and knowledge. Every human being should practise patience in difficulty, forgiveness in progress, cleverness of speech in a meeting, courage in war, interest in fame and habit for knowledge. Only then, personality developement is possible. So people must think about various remedies to develope their personality and act accordingly.

These days, people are striving hard to develope their personality. They try to develope their personality with the help of various remedies and acts.

A poem containing one hundred independent shlokas is called a Shatak Kavya.
