(1) वल्ली वेष्टयते वृक्षं सर्वतश्वेेव गच्छति ।
न ह्यदुष्टेश्व मार्गोऽस्ति तस्मात् पश्यन्ति पादपाः ॥

(2) पुण्यापुण्यैस्तथा गन्धैर्धूपैश्व विविधैरपि ।
अरोगाः पुष्पिताः सन्ति तस्माज्जिघ्रन्ति पादपाः ॥
Answer
(1) A climbers wraps itself around a tree and climbs up the tree. It does not have lack of sight for its path as it sees trees as its path.
(2) With good deeds (and sins) and with different type of fragrant insense, the trees remain healthy and diseasefree. Thus, it can be said that the trees smell with the help of flowers.

Question 24 Marks
(1) पादैः सलिलपानाच्च व्याधीनां चापि दर्शनात् ।
व्याधिप्रतिक्रियत्वाच्च विद्यते रसनं द्रुमे ॥

(2) वक्त्रेणोत्पल - नालेन यथोर्ध्वं जलमाददेत् ।
तथा पवनसंयुक्तः पादैः पिबति पादपः ॥
Answer
(1) It can be said that trees also possess tongue as they drink water with their roots and whenever any disease occurs (in them), they resist it.
(2) It is possible for a living creature to absorb water and carry it to different parts of the body. Similarly, a tree draws water upwards with the mouth, like a stalk of lotus. This is how, a tree drinks/absorbs water with the help of its roots.

(1) सुखदुःखयोश्च ग्रहणाच्छिन्नस्य च विरोहणात् ।
जीवं पश्यामि वृक्षाणामचैतन्यं न विद्यते ॥

(2) तेन तज्जलमादत्तं जरयत्यग्नि- मारुतौ I
आहारपरिणामाच्च स्नेहो वृद्धिश्च जायते ॥
Answer
(1) I observe consciousness/life in trees as they are able to grasp happiness and sorrow and as they are able to blossom again when they are cut down. Thus, trees possess consicousness or have life (means they do not lack consciousness).
(2) The fire and the wind help to digest water absorbed by tree. Similarly, by digesting food (due to the result of the food), trees become tender and grow.

(1) एतेषां सर्ववृक्षाणामुच्छेदं न तु कारयेत्‌ ।
संवर्धने विशेषेण प्रयतेत ह्यतन्द्रितः ॥

(2) यथा वृक्षः तथा पुत्रः सदा श्रेयस्करावुभौ ।
विना वृक्षं गृहं शून्यं पुत्रहीनं कुलं तथा ॥
Answer
(1) All the trees should not be destroyed (trees should not be cut down). But we should put special efforts to bring up trees while remaing aware (of their importance).
(2) Both a tree and a son always do weIfare A family is considered worthless inspite of possessor E wealth and material happiness when there is no son in the family. Similarly, a house is considered worthless when it does not have a tree in its courtyard.

(1) Both a tree and a son always do weIfare A family is considered worthless inspite of possessor E wealth and material happiness when there is no son in the family. Similarly, a house is considered worthless when it does not have a tree in its courtyard.
(2) A good tree having flowers blossomed on it make the entire forest fragrant. Similarly, a good son makes his entire family fragrant (means make his entire family happy and brings prestige to it.)
