No. Different animals eat different kinds of food as per their body structure and internal organs.
Depending on kind of food they eat, animals are divided into three basic categories:

1. Herbivores: Animals which feed on plants and plant products are called herbivores.

Examples: cow, goat, elephant, dear, etc.

2. Carnivores: Animals which feed on other animals are called carnivores.

Examples: lion, tiger, fox, etc.

3. Omnivores: Animals which feed on both plants and animals are called omnivores.

Examples: crow, cat, dog, etc.

Different animals have different feeding habit. Some eat green plans and plant products and are called herbivores like cow and deer. Some feed on flesh of other animals and are called carnivores. Like lion. Some animals eat both plants and animals and are called omnivores, like humans, rat etc.

Food habit is affected by production and supply. Since West Bengal and Odisha are coastal areas, fish is abundantly available here but not in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as these are not coastal areas.

1. Killing all the rats, the farmer saves his field from the pests and his production of wheat will increase.
2. If all the snakes are removed the population of rats in the field will increase and they will reduce the production of wheat by feeding on them.

Man eats either plants or herbivorous animals, which feed on plants. Plants in turn prepare the food only when they get energy from the Sun. Therefore, indirectly man gets energy from Sun.

The two ingredients in our food that are not obtained from plants or animals are:

Herbivores eat only plants or plant products. Their teeth are designed to chew plants and their stomachs to digest them. Carnivores eat other animals. They have sharp teeth to tear the flesh of animals.

Honey comes from honeybees. Honeybees collect nectar from flowers, convert it into honey and store it in their hive.

We should avoid wastage of food because:

• There are many people amongst us, who do not get sufficient food, due to the lack of money.
• Enough food is not available for all of us.

1. Avoid cooking more amount of food than required.
2. Food should be stored properly in refrigerators.

Scavengers are the animals that feed on dead, injured or decaying animals. They clean the earth of organic garbage. Many types of worms, insects, vulture, crow are scavengers, they decompose the dead and decaying plants and animals and make the environment free from germs.

Food is needed by all living organisms for the following reasons:

1. It provides us energy to do various activities.
2. It helps in growth.
3. It helps in repair and replacement of damaged parts of the body.
4. It protects us from infections and diseases.
