An object is placed at a distance of 100cm from a converging lens of focal length 40cm.
  1. What is the nature of image?
  2. What is the position of image?

Since the object is placed at a distance greater than the focal length of the lens, so the image formed is real and inverted. u = -100cm, f = 40cm Lens formula, $\frac{1}{\text{v}}-\frac{1}{\text{u}}=\frac{1}{\text{f}}$$\frac{1}{\text{v}}-\frac{1}{100}=\frac{1}{40}$
$\frac{1}{\text{v}}=\frac{1}{40}-\frac{1}{100}$
$\frac{1}{\text{v}}-=\frac{5-2}{200}=\frac{3}{200}$
$\text{v}=66.6\text{cm}$
Image is formed 66.6cm behind the convex lens.
