Question
Balance the following equation stepwise.
Write down the steps in balancing the equation.
$N_{2(g)} + H_{2(g)}\rightarrow NH_{3(g)}.$

Answer

Step $1:$ Write the equation given.
$N_2 + H_2\rightarrow NH_3$_______________$(1)$
Now count the number of atoms of each elements on reactants and product side.
Elements No. of atoms in reactants No. of atoms in products
$N$ $2$ $1$
$H$ $2$ $3$
Step $2:$ Number of atoms of elements on both side is not same. So we need to balance it. First we will balance Nitrogen by writing coefficient $2$ for the product $NH_3.$
$N_2+ H_2 \rightarrow 2NH_3$____________$(2)$
Step $3$: Again count the number of atoms of elements on both sides.
Elements No. of atoms in reactants No. of atoms in products
$N$ $2$ $2$
$H$ $2$ $6$
Step $4:$ Number of atoms of Nitrogen is now balanced on both sides, but no. of atoms of hydrogen is not balanced. Therefore we write coefficient $3$ for Hydrogen on reactant side. The equation becomes:
$N_2 +3H_2 \rightarrow 2NH_3$
Elements No. of atoms in reactants No. of atoms in products
$N$ $2$ $2$
$H$ $6$ $6$
Now the equation is balanced.

The gas A is used by most of the animals to obtain energy from food by the process of respiration. When A is acted upon by radiation X , it gets converted into another gas B which is an allotrope of A but poisonous when inhaled. B forms a kind of layer C in the upper atmosphere which absorbs radiations X coming from a source Y and prevent them from reaching the earth. Some chemicals $Z$ released from the various devices on the earth are destroying the layer C slowly. In fact, a hole has already been formed in layer C over the area D of the earth.
a. What are gases (i) $A$, and (ii) $B$ ? Write their molecular formulae.
b. Name the layer $C$.
c. What are (i) X , (ii) Y , and (iii) Z ?
d. Name the area D.

The top part A of the flask-shaped reproductive organ X in the flower of a plant secrets a surgery substance into its lower part B which goes towards the bottom part C of the flask-shaped organ. When a tiny grain D coming from the top part E of another reproductive organ Y i the flower falls on part A, it grows a long tube F through the organ X i response to the sugary substance and reaches the bottom part C of flask-shaped organ to carry out fertilisation.

Green corridor refers to a special road route that enables harvested organs meant for transplants to reach the destined hospital. A 45-year-old woman, a victim of a railway accident, was declared brain dead, her husband and children agreed to donate her kidneys, liver and heart. One of her kidneys was transplanted to a patient in MGM Hospital and the second kidney helped a patient in Jaslok hospital. Her liver helped the transplant of a patient in Wockhardt Hospital. And her heart was sent to Fortis to the patient on a super urgent priority list, transported via a green corridor covering 18km in less than 16 minutes. This was possible due to Green corridor.
1.What is Green corridor?
2.Which organs of brain-dead lady were transplanted?
3.Four patients lives were saved due to organ donation of one lady.
4.How was distance of 18km covered in 16 minutes? Why?
5.Who takes the decision to donate the organs?

An organic compound A having the molecular formula $C_3H_8O$ is a liquid at room temperature. The organic liquid $A$ reacts with sodium metal to evolve a gas which burns causing a little explosion. When the organic liquid A heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at $170^\circ C,$ it forms a compound $B$ which decolourizes bromine water. The compound $B$ adds on one molecule of hydrogen in the presence of Ni as catalyst to forms compound $C$ which gives substitution reactions with chlorine.
