Be the Change You Want to See
Mahatma Gandhi said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world." In other words, if we wish to see any change around us, we must initiate that change. It is not enough merely to wish for such a change. For example, if we wish to see a reduction in the use of plastic bags. we ourselves must stop using them and also actively initiate something that will make others stop using them too. Often, we cannot convince others by speech alone; our actions, however, will go a long way towards convincing them. We complain about the evils of corruption and bribery, but we must look at ourselves and see if we are also a party to it, and if so, whether we have to change our ideas. A father who is himself lazy cannot expect his lazy children to improve. unless he brings a change in himself. He has to become a role model by changing his own behaviour. Thus, if we correct our own behaviour, then others too will be inspired to do the same and we can bring about a positive change in society.
