Refractive index of a transparent medium is defined the ratio of speed of light in vacuum and speed of light in medium.
Is given by: $\text{n}=\frac{\text{c}}{\text{v}}$
Where,
n is the refractive index.
c is the speed of light in vacuum.
v is the speed of light in medium.
It has no units because it is the ratio of quantities which are similar.
Glass has higher refractive index.
