The methods of studying statistics are:

Descriptive Statistics: Descriptive statistics gives information that describes the data in some manner. It deals with the data related to every unit of population.
Inferential Statistics: Inferential statistics makes inferences about the population on the basis of a sample drawn from the population.

A sample is a set of data collected from the population which represents the population. The results of the sample are deemed to hold true for the entire population.
