Explain the code of conduct for counselling.

There is a code of conduct in every profession. Ethics means the ethical norms and values of the profession. Ethics of counselling is the guiding rules directing the relationship between counsellor and counselee. American Personal and Guidance Association (APGA) has suggested a code of conduct for counselling which is as under : 
(1) Relationship between the counselor and counselee: Counselor should respect the values of counselée. 
The personal matters of the counselee should be kept confidential. 
The counselor should interpret the test result in such a manner that it can make the counselee active to solve his problems constructively. 
(2) Relationship of the counselor with their occupation : Counselor has to maintain higher standard of counselling. 
Counselor should expect ethical behaviour from his co-workers. 
Counselor should maintain genuine relationship with counselee. 
(3) Relationship of the counselor with other reference organization : Sometimes, counselor mmay have to recommend the client to consult manother consultant or psychiatrist. 
(4) Relationship of the counselor with his own self: Counselor should not counsel at the cost of his/ her own personal life. In India, National Vocational and Educational 
Guidance Association (NVEGA) gave the code of conduct for the counselors in 1980.
