Explain why brain and spinal cord are considered as central nervous system.

The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The brain plays a central role in the control of most bodily functions, including, movements, sensations, thoughts, speech, and memory. The spinal cord carries signals back and forth between the brain and the peripheral nerves. Hence it is called as central nervous system.
